CFO, PEAC further empower Philippine Schools Overseas through second PSO webinar and unveiling of new database system

Quezon City—The Commission on Filipinos Overseas, led by Secretary Dante “Klink” Ang II, and the Private Education Assistance Committee (PEAC) delivered a webinar entitled “An Orientation on PEAC Services: Exploring Opportunities, Employing New Approaches for the PSO Community” to introduce a new database system that brings PEAC programs closer to PSOs.

The webinar convened more than a hundred faculty and staff from 29 PSOs from 11 countries, namely Bahrain, Cambodia, Timor-Leste, Greece, Italy, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Libya, Oman, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates. In his welcome remarks, Secretary Ang asserted the significance of PSOs in ensuring that Filipino families overseas remain together and the provision of quality Filipino education in foreign jurisdictions. Furthermore, Secretary Ang highlighted the role of the CFO in promoting a higher standard of Philippine education through timely platforms and new partnerships, which address the different concerns of PSOs.

Dr. Rhodora Angela Fernandez-Ferrer, Executive Director of PEAC, provided an overview of the history of PEAC and its different programs that PSOs can avail of. Mr. Eimann Evarola, Head of the Information Management and Information Technology Unit of PEAC, delivered a brief overview of data privacy-related policies & practices in the Philippines and a preview of PEAC’s Enterprise Information System for PSOs.

In her closing remarks, Department of Education Assistant Secretary Jocelyn DR Andaya thanked the CFO and PEAC for their effort in providing a future-ready basic education for PSOs, which would be instrumental in advancing the delivery of quality Philippine education for approximately 24,000 learners overseas. Additionally, Asec. Andaya asserted the significance of public and private roles in innovating basic education, which includes digitalization as a tool in achieving the Bagong Pilipinas vision.
